The Wonders of Chai
Hi there, my name is Dov, and am Development Officer at Chai Lifeline Canada. I wanted to share with everyone the experience I have had over the past year working with this incredible organization.
Throughout high school I volunteered for Chai Lifeline. I was assigned a little sibling with whom I would visit weekly and was even invited to a family event or two. At the time, I didn’t fully grasp how much Chai Lifeline did for a child and their family. Yes, I knew they had a program to help children get the attention they need, and yes, I knew Chai lifeline “helped” families, but I never really sat down and investigated the marvelous work they accomplish.
Last Summer I noticed Chai Lifeline was looking for a summer intern, so I applied for the job thinking it would be your average Summer job.
I was so wrong.
I am in awe of all the amazing passion, devotion, love, care, and effort that I see in the office. Never have I seen a team so devoted to helping others. The case management team does not stop moving, they are always physically helping families. From therapy, to a hospital visit, advocacy and more, the case managing team impresses me every day with their seemingly never-ending kindness. The development team, always working to obtain ways to help families in ways such as financial support or to provide thrilling experiences such as concerts and sports games. The volunteer coordinators arrange at crazy hours to have a volunteer bring a burger to a child and make their day, or to have a volunteer sleep overnight at the hospital with a child so their parent can go home. Additionally, there are many more important behind the scene roles in the office, helping Chai Lifeline function and arranging incredible events, both for children and adults.
What really made me realize the impact Chai lifeline has was by talking to the children. Seeing their genuine smiles on when they are attending a Chai event or going out with a volunteer to get their nails done, or even having a family outing at our annual Cottage day. It is a testimony to how special Chai Lifeline’s work is.
Chai Lifeline is such an unbelievable team, and I wanted to share my reflections with everyone, as well as bless the team and wish them continued success in making a difference in the lives of over 400 families.
