When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, the entire family is affected. Families literally can be torn apart as their daily routines are disrupted. Chai Lifeline Canada steps in, offering whatever is needed. Counseling for each member of the family, volunteers who bring an extra measure of adult attention and stability to children’s lives, tutoring for children who must miss school for extended periods of time, family retreats, special sibling programs, information, peer and professional support, and two extraordinary summer camp programs for seriously ill children help families retain a sense of normalcy and hope while fighting even the most dire pediatric diseases. All programs are free of charge.

Responsibilities | Family Events · Plan, coordinate and facilitate Family Events (Holiday Celebrations) typically one per month ensuring all catering, decorations, prizes and other materials necessary for the events are ordered, prepared and set-up on day of the event. · Coordinate the rental of any offsite area necessary to host such event (if not at our office location). · Work in conjunction with the Family Services Department to ensure all invitations have been sent out to families · Plan, coordinate and facilitate any in hospital events which typically take place on the Monday of a long weekend Shinning Stars · Plan, coordinate and facilitate the Shining Stars After School program for children that takes place Tuesdays (Every Tuesday for up to 8 sessions) after school for three sessions Fall, Winter and Spring. · Ensure activities are booked for each session · Coordinate logistics to ensure the participating children can be there on time · Coordinate and purchase any snacks and food necessary for the session(s)
Camp Lifeline · Plan, Coordinate and Manage a two week summer camp experience for children located in Thornhill (exact location for 2020 to be determined) · Responsible for the recruitment and placement of all camp staff including counsellors and nurses. · Train and properly prepare all staff for camp and provide them with relevant background knowledge on all campers pertaining to any specific needs · Planning for camp takes place in September camp is held in July Annual Edmonton Trip · Plan, Coordinate and Manage our annual trip to Edmonton (visit to West Edmonton Mall) · Book all transportation and accommodations including flights and busing as well as on site transportation · Communicate with families of attending kids to ensure all needs are met while on trip · Coordinate any local dinners/lunches with community lay leaders · Plan daily schedules, including sourcing and booking all local entertainment · Source and pack any swag bags Penina’s Helping, Hand Annual Disney Trip · Plan, Coordinate and Manage our annual trip to Disney World in Orlando Florida · Book all transportation and accommodations including flights and busing as well as on site transportation · Communicate with families of attending kids to ensure all needs are met while on trip · Plan and book any relevant meals in advance · Source and book all local entertainment · Source and pack any swag bags Requirements: · Outgoing and charismatic nature and is driven to help others · Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills · Ability to work with culturally and religiously diverse clients and families · Ability to take initiative and work independently and within an interdisciplinary team · Can multi- task, time mange well and work efficiently under pressure · Has computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email and other communications, as well as database management · Possess good knowledge and appreciation of Chai Lifeline programs and services- direct experience would be an asset · Is comfortable being in hospitals and interacting with children and parents who have serious illnesses · Has the ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of clients and their families · Experience with grief and bereavement would be an asset · Has access to a vehicle |
