Why I Look Forward to the Summer

By: Tammy Zaldin

As a Torontonian teacher, there are many reasons why I look to the summer. The weather, the sun and vitamin D, watching my own children thrive in their recreational programs, reading for fun and being able to do more for Chai Lifeline Canada. During the school year, I try, but it’s hard as a working mom of three. The summer….that’s a different story. I have more time and I am thrilled to donate it when I can. I personally know so many families that Chai Lifeline Canada has helped.

Taking 15-30 minutes out of your day does so much for others. The person who did grocery shopping and prepared food appreciates you ensuring the family who needs the food will get the food. The family who receives the food appreciates it so much because it is one less thing for them to worry about. Taking 15-30 minutes out of your day can bring so much relief and joy to so many. I encourage any of you who have an hour at the end of your day, to join this incredible team of volunteers. Giving someone the gift of having one less thing to worry about is truly gratifying in a way that is hard to put into words. I am blessed that I have been able to help and only wish I could do more. Just know that even one trip a week is helpful.

I’m off to Israel for two weeks – with a duffle bag of donations to their Chai Lifeline – How could we not? When I return, I plan to help before school starts. I hope someone reading considers joining me.

I promise, your help goes a long way!
