We all know the miracles of Chanukah; the military victory of the Maccabees and the miracle of the oil that should have lasted one day but stayed burning for eight. But there was another miracle not many people know or talk about that took place many years later.

The Power of Teamwork

As the holiday of Chanukah is approaching, I wanted to focus on an idea that is slightly hidden in the story of Chanukah– the power of teamwork.

The Maccabees were united by a vision for change and they worked together to achieve it during a dark time in history in the Land of Israel. Even during the bleak moments of this difficult time, they were able to persevere and make change happen by following their vision and working together to bring forth the necessary events that would lead to great accomplishments.

One of my favourite business authors is Mr. Patrick Lencioni, who writes in his book The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team: “Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare.”

As Lencioni writes in his book, when everyone on a team is able to work together, that team can overcome almost any challenge that it faces. When team members are all dedicated to a common vision, the otherwise impossible becomes possible.

As Chanukah approaches, I would like to thank everyone in the community who shares the vision of helping the children and families of Chai Lifeline, as well as those who are helping the less fortunate this holiday season.

Best wishes for a warm winter,

Teddy
